X-Cel Specialty Contacts and Essilor Custom Contacts have announced the launch of Lunara, a new FDA-approved overnight orthokeratology lens designed around familiar tangential fitting principles.
The lens is manufactured in Optimum Infinite (tisilfocon A), a 180 Dk material intended to provide high oxygen permeability for overnight wear. According to the companies, Lunara combines tangential, reverse-geometry design principles with flexible optic zone and diameter options, allowing practitioners to tailor lens selection to individual patient needs.
The design is intended to provide a familiar fitting approach for clinicians already working with established tangential-design orthokeratology lenses while also offering an accessible option for practitioners adding orthokeratology to their practices.
“Whether a doctor is new to fitting orthokeratology or already fitting today’s leading tangential-design lenses, Lunara is built around familiar clinical principles,” Derrell James, vice president and general manager of X-Cel Specialty Contacts and Essilor Custom Contacts, said in the announcement.
Mr. James added that the lens combines “premium material performance, flexible parameters, fast turnaround and direct access to knowledgeable specialty contact lens consultants.”
The launch is supported by a dedicated Lunara Lens Selector as well as fitting, certification and educational resources. The materials are designed to assist practitioners throughout the fitting process, including initial lens selection, follow-up and troubleshooting.
Practitioners also have access to NCLE-certified specialty contact lens consultants by phone from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday-Friday. According to the companies, dedicated assistance is available for practices transitioning from other tangential-fitting lens systems.

As part of the U.S. launch, X-Cel Specialty Contacts is offering a 50% discount on Lunara for US accounts through December 31, 2026. The promotion is aimed at practices adopting the lens, including those looking to add another tangential-design option to an existing orthokeratology program.
