Visionary Optics announced the appointment of Lynette K. Johns, OD, FAAO, to the position of director of clinical and scientific affairs. In this role, Dr. Johns will oversee the strategic implementation of scleral and specialty contact lens education, research, and training, as well as support the dissemination of evidence-based data through professional networks. Dr. Johns will help ensure the company achieves its goals by encouraging and influencing eye care practitioners in the US and abroad to increase their understanding of scleral and specialty contact lens applications and fitting processes.

Dr. Johns has been a specialty contact lens practitioner and investigator at Massachusetts Eye and Ear and a research associate in the Harvard Medical School Department of Ophthalmology. She is well known for her work with scleral lenses for visual rehabilitation, pain management, and ocular surface support. Dr. Johns has been a key player in the specialty lens arena for more than two decades, and is a national and international educator and lecturer on scleral lenses, irregular corneas, and severe ocular surface disease. Her specialty lens expertise spans the gamut from scleral and rigid gas permeable to multifocal and orthokeratology lenses.

Dr. Johns is widely published and is an author and co-editor of the textbook, "Contemporary Scleral Lenses: Theory and Application." She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, Scleral Lens Education Society, British Contact Lens Association, and she is the recipient of the venerable Founders’ Award from the American Academy of Optometry section of Cornea, Contact Lenses and Refractive Technologies.

The addition of Dr. Johns to the Visionary Optics team complements the company’s recent acquisition by Euclid Vision, a global leader in advanced orthokeratology and proactive myopia management initiatives.
