Key Takeaways

  • Perfect Corp.'s generative AI feature enables virtual eyewear try-on while users continue wearing their prescription glasses

  • The technology reconstructs facial features behind existing frames rather than relying on traditional image-masking techniques

  • The upgrade is available across online retail platforms, mobile applications, and in-store kiosks

Perfect Corp. announced an upgrade to its "AI Glasses Virtual Try-On" solution, introducing a generative AI feature that allows consumers to virtually try on eyewear without removing their existing prescription glasses.

The new Glasses Removal feature uses generative AI to digitally remove a user's current glasses from a live camera image and reconstruct the facial features behind them before displaying a new frame. The technology is designed to address a common challenge for individuals with refractive errors who rely on corrective lenses to see their screens clearly.

Unlike earlier virtual try-on technologies that use masking techniques to obscure existing frames, Perfect Corp.'s system reconstructs the eyes, eyebrows, skin texture, and surrounding lighting. According to the company, this approach reduces visual artifacts associated with traditional masking, including blurred areas, frame outlines, and distortions around the eyes.

The feature is designed to accommodate various eyewear styles, including rimless, metal, thick-framed, and tinted glasses, as well as lenses with significant reflections. It supports real-time camera applications and uploaded photographs.

"With generative AI, Glasses Removal rebuilds the face behind the glasses, so shoppers can keep them on and see every new frame clearly and accurately," said Alice Chang, founder and CEO of Perfect Corp.

The upgrade integrates with the company's existing virtual eyewear platform, which includes AI-powered pupillary distance (PD) detection. According to Perfect Corp., the system can estimate PD in approximately 2 seconds to assist with virtual frame sizing. The platform also allows users to view frames from multiple angles and adjust lens tint, frame dimensions, and reflections.

Glasses Removal is now available for integration into e-commerce websites, mobile applications, and in-store kiosks.
