As of January 16, Alexander van der Mey assumed the role of chief commercial officer (CCO) position of Optimo Medical AG. In his new position, Mr. van der Mey is responsible for global marketing and sales.
Mr. Van der Mey has studied business administration in Germany and the Netherlands. He has more than 10 years of experience in commercialization and with many international product launches, through multiple positions in the field of marketing and sales in ophthalmology. As the managing director of EasyScan GmbH in the Netherlands, he successfully launched a digital imaging camera. Mr. van der Mey’s last position was as vice president, global head sales and marketing, with the German IT-company ifa systems AG.
“With Alexander van der Mey, we have found the ideal candidate to further increase our international market presence, and to ramp-up the commercialization of our products further,” Harald Studer, co-founder and CEO of Optimo Medical AG, said in a company news release. “Thanks to his extensive market knowledge, his experience with product distribution and partner management, his vast international network with important industry players, and his explicit customer focus, Alexander will significantly advance Optimo Medical further.”
“With Optimeyes, Optimo Medical has a fascinating product, enabling femto-cataract surgeons to make the most out of their laser machines. With Optimeyes, the users can quickly and accurately plan their AK (arcuate keratotomy) surgical treatments to manage astigmatism during cataract surgery,” Mr. van der Mey said. “This is an important advantage over existing approaches, as it allows the surgeon to correct astigmatism also when using simple and inexpensive non-toric IOLs. To further pave the way and bring this this surgical procedure forward is a fascinating assignment and will have a positive impact for hundreds of thousand of patients.”
