Zeiss announced the availability of the DORC EVA Nexus ophthalmic surgical system in a dedicated cataract configuration, expanding the platform with features designed to provide cataract surgeons with streamlined performance, stability, and control in the operating room.

The cataract-only configuration is scheduled to make its global debut at the 2026 European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) Congress in London. According to Zeiss, the system will initially become available in select European countries beginning in September 2026, with broader global availability to follow pending regional regulatory approvals.

The configuration includes a cataract grade selection feature with as many as 4 programmable presets. The presets allow surgeons to select optimized phacoemulsification, aspiration, and irrigation settings based on the surgical step and cataract grade. Settings can be activated through either the footswitch or system screen.

Zeiss also said the DORC EVA Nexus cataract configuration is being integrated into its Cataract Workflow portfolio.

“With the newly configured DORC EVA Nexus cataract solution, Zeiss’ advanced technology is redefining how cataract surgeons can operate in the OR—designed for streamlined performance, stability and control—supporting surgical decisions and procedural precision,” Dominik Beck, MD, head of the Posterior Surgery Business Sector at Zeiss Medical Technology, said in the announcement.

Among the technologies incorporated into the system are the VacuFlow VTi pump, Smart IOP, and EVA Equiphaco.

VacuFlow VTi uses Valve Timing Intelligence to provide either pulsation-free flow or responsive vacuum during cataract procedures. According to the company, the fluidics technology is intended to improve efficiency and surgeon control.

Smart IOP is designed to automatically compensate for pressure losses and maintain constant intraocular pressure. Zeiss reported that the technology provides more stable, lower anterior chamber pressure, and up to 73% greater responsiveness, including during post-occlusion breaks.

For phacoemulsification, the system incorporates the compact EVA Sure Touch handpiece and EVA Equiphaco range of phaco tips with fitted, color-coded sleeves. Zeiss said the combination is designed to support chamber stability, ultrasound efficiency, and surgeon control.

A customizable wireless Dual Linear footswitch provides independent control of aspiration and ultrasound.
