WaveFront Dynamics (WDI) announced new integrations with Bausch + Lomb and WAVE Eye Care that expand the scleral lens options available to clinicians using the company’s WaveDȳn Vision Analyzer and WaveDȳn Advantage optic design service.

Through the collaborations, eye care professionals using the WaveDȳn technologies will have access to Bausch + Lomb’s Zenlens Chroma HOA as well as additional scleral lens options from WAVE Eye Care. The integrations are intended to allow clinicians to pair wavefront-based diagnostic information and custom optic design with different scleral lens platforms according to individual patient needs.

“Today’s clinicians want both precision and flexibility,” Dan Neal, PhD, founder and CEO of WaveFront Dynamics, said in the announcement. “These collaborations represent an important step forward in empowering eye care professionals with advanced wavefront analysis while preserving their ability to choose the scleral lens technology they believe is best for each patient.”

The integrations focus in part on patients with complex corneal conditions and higher-order aberrations (HOAs), for whom conventional refractive correction may not fully address visual symptoms.

Patients wearing scleral lenses can continue to experience glare, halos, and blurred vision when residual HOAs remain after correction of lower-order refractive errors. The WaveDȳn Vision Analyzer is designed to measure the eye’s optical aberrations, while the WaveDȳn Advantage service uses those measurements to develop customized optics intended to address both lower- and higher-order aberrations.

Nathan Schramm, OD, of Insight Vision Costa Mesa, said the additional lens choices could give clinicians greater flexibility when applying the diagnostic information obtained through wavefront analysis.

“As a clinician focused on complex corneal cases, the diagnostic depth of the WaveDȳn Vision Analyzer has genuinely changed how I approach scleral lens selection,” Schramm said. “With expanded lens options now available through these collaborations, I have everything I need in one ecosystem to deliver truly personalized care for my patients who require scleral lenses.”

Bausch + Lomb said the integration broadens clinicians’ ability to use the WaveDȳn platform with its Zenlens Chroma HOA lenses.

“The diagnostic information these technologies provide is important to the fitting process and offers more options for designing HOA-correcting scleral lenses for patients,” said Yang Yang, president of Global Vision Care at Bausch + Lomb.

WAVE Eye Care is also expanding its relationship with WaveFront Dynamics to bring HOA-correction capabilities to its WAVE ScleraLens designs.

“Our EyePrint Prosthetics customers have seen firsthand what WaveFront Dynamics HOA-correction technology can do for their patients, and we are thrilled to bring that same capability to our WAVE ScleraLens designs,” said Brian Purdy, vice president of sales and commercial development at WAVE Eye Care.

According to the companies, the integrations may also support coordination among optometrists and ophthalmologists involved in managing patients with complex visual needs by providing additional diagnostic information and treatment-planning options.

WaveFront Dynamics said the expanded ecosystem is designed to give clinicians greater choice in scleral lens platforms while incorporating wavefront-guided measurements into the fitting and customization process.
