Key Takeaways
- Volk Optical has launched ClearField Pro for retinal examination and laser indirect ophthalmoscopy
- The lens incorporates redesigned aspheric optics and an anti-reflective coating intended to improve retinal visualization across LED illumination and multiple laser wavelengths
- ClearField Pro is 10% lighter than comparable lenses and includes a precision-milled grip and fingerprint-resistant oleophobic topcoat
Volk Optical announced the launch of ClearField Pro, a new ophthalmic lens designed for retinal examination and laser indirect ophthalmoscopy.
According to the company, the lens combines redesigned aspheric optics, advanced coatings, and a lighter design to support retinal visualization during diagnostic examinations and laser treatment.
ClearField Pro features an advanced anti-reflective coating that provides up to 77% less reflectivity, according to Volk. The coating is designed for low reflectance under LED illumination as well as green, yellow, and infrared laser treatment wavelengths.
The company said the lens's redesigned aspheric optics are intended to provide clear visualization of peripheral retinal detail while reducing image distortion. The lens is also designed to maintain visualization in patients with small pupils.
For handling, ClearField Pro is 10% lighter than comparable lenses, according to Volk, and incorporates a precision-milled grip. An oleophobic topcoat is designed to resist fingerprints and oils, helping reduce smudging and facilitate cleaning.
“Clinicians need a clear view whether they are examining the retina or delivering laser treatment,” Ali Salo, chief commercial officer of Volk Optical, said in the release. “ClearField Pro brings those needs together in one lens, with purpose-built coatings and practical refinements to its optics and handling.”
