Key Takeaways

  • Sight Sciences has commercially launched Omni Ultra, its next-generation implant-free ab interno canaloplasty system for adult patients with primary open-angle glaucoma
  • Omni Ultra enables single-pass canaloplasty followed by trabeculotomy and incorporates TruSync Plus technology and enhanced catheter visualization
  • Sight Sciences will feature Omni Ultra and preview the Clearance Assistant Plus for the TearCare System during AAO 2026 in New Orleans

Sight Sciences announced the commercial availability of the Omni Ultra Surgical System, the latest generation of its ab interno canaloplasty platform for the treatment of primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG).

The company will feature Omni Ultra at the 2026 American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) annual meeting, taking place October 9-12 in New Orleans.

Omni Ultra builds on the company's existing Omni Surgical System and is designed to provide surgeons with additional procedural flexibility and control while maintaining an implant-free approach to minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS).

“I have relied on the Omni Surgical System for 8 years now and can still appreciate how Omni Ultra builds on a proven technology platform with even more versatility and procedural flexibility,” Zarmeena Vendal, MD, cataract and glaucoma surgeon and owner of Westlake Eye Specialists, said in a statement. Vendal was a prelaunch user of the technology.

According to Vendal, the additional flexibility could help address the needs of a broader range of surgeons as adoption of interventional glaucoma procedures grows.

The Omni technology platform received an expanded FDA glaucoma clearance in 2021. The new Omni Ultra system enables single-pass canaloplasty followed by trabeculotomy and incorporates TruSync Plus technology and enhanced catheter visualization.

The system is designed to reduce IOP by addressing the 3 recognized areas of resistance within the conventional aqueous outflow pathway: the trabecular meshwork, Schlemm's canal, and collector channels.

Omni Ultra can be used as a standalone procedure or in combination with cataract surgery in adult patients with POAG.

Key features of Omni Ultra include:

  • Comprehensive implant-free intervention: The system addresses the trabecular meshwork, Schlemm's canal, and collector channels through a single clear corneal microincision without leaving an implant behind.
  • Single-pass canaloplasty: Omni Ultra accesses the full circumference of Schlemm's canal with a single pass for canaloplasty followed by trabeculotomy.
  • TruSync Plus technology: The technology provides automatic viscodilation of Schlemm's canal during both advancement and retraction of the microcatheter during canaloplasty.
  • Expanded treatment versatility: The system is designed to support customized treatment across different disease severities and surgical settings, with enhanced catheter visualization intended to help surgeons assess and tailor treatment delivery.

Sight Sciences will also use AAO 2026 to preview Clearance Assistant Plus for its TearCare System. The dual-action tool is designed to perform both meibomian gland expression and eyelid debridement. The technology is part of the company's interventional dry eye portfolio.

Sight Sciences plans AAO events and demonstrations

Sight Sciences will showcase Omni Ultra, TearCare, and other technologies at booth 1237 during AAO. The company also plans several events surrounding the meeting:

  • ASOA Live! IG Dinner Series: October 8 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm at Tableau in New Orleans. The case-based program will examine real-world adoption of interventional glaucoma across 3 practices
  • TearCare Clearance Experience Sessions: October 10 and 11, with sessions from 9 am to 10 am, noon to 1 pm, and 3 pm to 4 pm. The programs will include live TearCare demonstrations at booth 1237 and discussions about incorporating the technology into clinical practice
  • IX Eyecon Appreciation Reception: October 10 from 6 pm to 8 pm at Sazerac House in New Orleans. The event will recognize participating clinicians and provide a preview of Sight Sciences' newest technologies

Attendees can also visit booth 1237 during exhibit hours for demonstrations of technologies across the company's interventional glaucoma and dry eye portfolios.
