RadiusXR and its strategic partner Topcon Healthcare introduced InspirePRO, a new wearable visual field testing platform designed to support glaucoma diagnosis and monitoring across the full spectrum of disease severity, at the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) 2026 annual meeting in New Orleans.

The portable perimeter incorporates purpose-built hardware, advanced eye tracking, and integrated clinical software to provide visual field measurements from the earliest detectable defects through advanced glaucoma. According to the companies, InspirePRO is designed to address limitations associated with conventional perimetry while improving patient comfort, testing flexibility, and workflow efficiency across clinical settings.

InspirePRO is designed to deliver a full measurement range using background brightness comparable to that of conventional perimetry. Unlike systems that approximate certain testing parameters through software, the platform uses custom hardware engineered specifically for visual field assessment.

According to RadiusXR, the expanded measurement range allows clinicians to quantify visual field loss in patients with advanced glaucoma, potentially reducing the need for practices to maintain separate standalone perimeters for different stages of disease. The system is also designed to support consistent longitudinal testing as patients progress from early to advanced glaucoma.

"InspirePRO is the next evolution of the Inspire hardware platform," said Ammad Khan, CEO of RadiusXR. "Because we design and build our own hardware, we can quickly turn lessons from the clinic into significant improvements. Each generation of Inspire has been shaped by real-world clinical use, and InspirePRO is our biggest step forward. Clinicians can now rely on one wearable system throughout every stage of glaucoma."

Custom display and high-speed eye tracking

InspirePRO incorporates a custom display designed to provide the brightness needed to measure visual field defects across a broad range of disease severity. RadiusXR stated that the system's display capabilities allow clinicians to quantify visual function loss extending into advanced glaucoma.

The platform also features high-speed eye tracking designed to continuously monitor fixation without obstructing the patient's field of view. By tracking eye position throughout testing, the system can adjust stimulus presentation and scoring based on where the patient is looking, an approach intended to improve measurement consistency and reduce errors associated with fixation instability.

According to RadiusXR, the eye-tracking technology may also support future applications in oculomics, an emerging field investigating ocular measurements as potential indicators of systemic health and disease.

In addition to its measurement capabilities, InspirePRO incorporates several features intended to improve comfort and accessibility during visual field testing.

The wearable platform includes independent refractive adjustment, an adaptable fit system, modular light seals, and integrated sound-isolating speakers.

The system's portable design also allows it to be moved between examination rooms and clinical environments, potentially offering greater flexibility than traditional stationary perimeters.

"In glaucoma care, visual function needs to be assessed from the earliest detectable loss through advanced disease," said Robert N. Weinreb, MD, distinguished professor of ophthalmology at the University of California San Diego. "A wearable perimeter that covers that full range and is comfortable for repeated testing should help clinicians follow patients more consistently over time."
