Kalaris Therapeutics announced that phase 1a clinical data for its investigational retinal disease therapy TH103 will be presented at the American Society of Retina Specialists (ASRS) 2026 Annual Meeting in Montréal, Quebec.

The presentation, titled "First-in-Human Evaluation of TH103, a Novel Dual-Targeting VEGF/HSPG Biologic: Phase 1 Single Ascending Dose Study in Treatment-Naïve Neovascular AMD," will be delivered by Joel Pearlman, MD, PhD, of Retinal Consultants Medical Group during the AMD–Neovascular Symposium on July 17, 2026.

TH103 is an investigational biologic designed to target both vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and heparan sulfate proteoglycans (HSPGs). According to the company, the dual-targeting approach is intended to enhance VEGF inhibition while extending intraocular retention, potentially allowing for longer-lasting therapeutic effects in retinal vascular diseases.

The candidate was engineered by Napoleone Ferrara, MD, whose work contributed to the discovery of VEGF as a therapeutic target. TH103 is a fully humanized recombinant fusion protein administered through intravitreal injection and is being developed for the treatment of exudative and neovascular retinal diseases, including wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic eye disease, and retinal vein occlusion (RVO).

In addition to the upcoming phase 1a presentation, Kalaris reported that its ongoing phase 1b/2 multiple ascending dose study of TH103 in patients with wet AMD is actively enrolling and dosing participants. The company expects to report initial data from that trial during the first half of 2027. According to Kalaris, the phase 1b/2 study is intended to accelerate clinical development of TH103 and help identify dose levels for potential phase 3 registrational studies.
