The FDA has cleared the first and only daily disposable soft (hydrophilic) contact lens for presbyopia that utilizes patented Extended Depth of Focus (EDOF) optical design technology. The annoncement, made by The Cataltheia Group and its US subsidiary, Bruno Vision Care, enables commercial distribution in the United States.
The newly cleared Deseyne contact lens is designed to deliver smooth, continuous vision across near, intermediate, and distance ranges, offering presbyopic patients clear, natural vision without the compromises commonly associated with multifocal lenses, according to Bruno Vision. The performance of Deseyne is driven by Cataltheia’s patented hyper-refractive central zone, which precisely redirects light in a controlled manner to create a continuous depth of focus.
Unlike multifocal contact lenses—which rely on multiple optical zones and often require extended visual and cognitive adaptation—Deseyne features a single, spherical optical zone designed to reduce adaptation time while improving visual consistency.
“We are proud to offer the first contact lens solution for the world’s aging population that delivers clear vision across all distances,” said Eddie Catalfamo, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Cataltheia Group. “With Deseyne, people can see clearly in the moments that matter without the tradeoffs associated with multifocal lenses.”
“The Deseyne lens represents a clear clinical advantage over multifocal designs,” said Paul Karpecki, OD, FAAO. “Its single, spherical optical zone delivers continuous focus across distances, reducing the need for patient adaptation while improving fitting success and practice efficiency.”
According to Bruno, Deseyne extends the benefits of EDOF optics to a non-surgical, daily disposable contact lens format, delivering a depth of focus comparable to FDA-approved EDOF IOLs, with clinically meaningful improvements in near and intermediate vision.
Deseyne is manufactured from vifilcon C hydrogel and enhanced with natural co-polymers, hyaluronic acid, and tamarind seed polysaccharide to support hydration, comfort, and visual stability throughout the day. As a daily disposable soft contact lens, it also offers a favorable safety profile, with no adverse events reported in the clinical study.
The US approval builds on more than a decade of real-world clinical use in Europe under the Safilens brand.
