Bausch + Lomb announced that its next-generation SeeLyra femtosecond laser has received CE Mark approval in Europe, clearing the way for a limited commercial rollout in the region in the coming months.

The platform is designed for laser preparation in premium cataract surgery, LASIK flap creation, and corneal therapeutic procedures. According to the company, SeeLyra combines a compact footprint with features intended to provide surgeons with greater precision and control while accommodating operating room workflow requirements.

“Building on over 15 years of experience in the femtocataract laser market, our goal was to deliver a platform that provides both enhanced functionality and greater flexibility to the OR,” Luc Bonnefoy, president of Surgical at Bausch + Lomb, said in a statement. “SeeLyra delivers, helping surgeons achieve the precise preparation and controlled conditions necessary to unlock the full potential of premium cataract surgery without compromising on space or efficiency.”

SeeLyra incorporates live swept-source optical coherence tomography (OCT), providing real-time depth visualization during procedures. Bausch + Lomb said the technology is intended to help reduce variability during docking, facilitate precise positioning of laser cuts, and provide visualization during laser application.

The system also carries forward features from the company’s previous-generation Victus femtosecond platform, including an interface designed to streamline setup and support multiple surgical applications.

SeeLyra does not use a fixed patient bed and is compatible with existing bed configurations. According to Bausch + Lomb, the design allows the laser to be repositioned and transported within space-constrained operating rooms and eliminates the need for patients to switch beds between procedures. An articulating swing arm also allows the system to accommodate surgeons’ preferred operating orientation.

“Premium surgery success begins with precise surgical preparation of the eye,” José Manuel Larrosa, MD, of the University of Zaragoza in Spain, said in the announcement. “SeeLyra will help me to achieve this consistently on my terms, while fitting seamlessly and efficiently into our OR space and workflow.”

Bausch + Lomb expects SeeLyra to become available on a limited basis in Europe in the coming months, followed by increased availability in 2027.

The company is also pursuing regulatory approvals for the platform in other markets, including the United States. Indications and regulatory approvals will vary by country.
