Balance Ophthalmics has appointed ophthalmic industry veteran Norbert Lowe as chief commercial officer as the company prepares for the commercial rollout of its FSYX Ocular Pressure Adjusting Pump (OPAP), a noninvasive device for the treatment of open-angle glaucoma.
Mr. Lowe brings more than 30 years of leadership experience spanning ophthalmic devices, pharmaceuticals, and medical technology. Most recently, he served as senior vice president of commercial operations at Eyenovia. His previous commercial leadership roles include positions at Aerie Pharmaceuticals, which was acquired by Alcon; Carl Zeiss Meditec; and AcuFocus, which was acquired by Bausch + Lomb Surgical.
In his new role, Mr. Lowe will oversee commercial strategy and execution as Balance expands awareness and adoption of the FSYX system following recent FDA 510(k) clearance of its wireless-enabled next-generation platform.
FSYX is a prescription-only, noninvasive therapy designed to reduce IOP during sleep in adults with open-angle glaucoma. The system combines pressure-modulating goggles with a compact pump that applies gentle negative pressure to the eyes overnight. The latest version also transmits patient usage data directly to prescribing practices, providing clinicians with objective information on at-home treatment adherence.
According to the company, the device has been evaluated in 12 clinical studies involving more than 600 eyes, demonstrating a mean 39% reduction in nighttime IOP with no device-related serious adverse events reported.
"We are elated to welcome Norbert to the Balance Ophthalmics team," said Seph Jensen, CEO of Balance Ophthalmics. "Throughout his career, Norbert has consistently demonstrated the ability to translate innovative technologies into meaningful clinical and commercial success. As we prepare for the next phase of growth, his deep ophthalmic expertise, strategic leadership and track record of building high-performing organizations will be instrumental in helping us establish a new category in glaucoma care and bring FSYX to physicians and patients around the world who need additional treatment options."
Balance Ophthalmics expects the wireless-enabled next-generation FSYX OPAP to become available to eye care practices during the fourth quarter of 2026.
