MicroSurgical Technology has introduced the Scleral IOL Fixation Solutions Pack, which is designed to streamline the double-needle scleral IOL fixation technique with several unique new instruments that are conveniently packaged to support the procedure end-to-end.
The comprehensive offering integrates the necessary instrumentation into a single-packaged solution, enabling the procedure to be performed efficiently by removing the worry of having to plan and purchase all the items separately.
Since its introduction in 2014, the double-needle intrascleral haptic fixation technique has gained in popularity and is becoming a new standard of practice. However, the procedure is not without its complexities. Partnering with surgeons to address these challenges experienced while operating, MST has created unique instrumentation to enhance the technique to deliver a more efficient workflow, according to a company news release.
The IOL solutions pack offers a centration marking system, low profile 30-gauge thin wall needles, stabilizers, and forceps engineered to maneuver the needles to execute the haptic removal. Complimenting these devices are the inclusion of an MVR blade, AC maintainer, and low-temp cautery that come co-packaged giving assurance that all is on hand to perform the technique seamlessly.
The centration marking system’s attributes include a guide, caliper, and ink pad which facilitate accurate marking for the critical needle placement.
To diminish the unintended movement that standard needles may cause, specially constructed low-profile designs with a micro-hub feature and integrated silicone stopper are provided for better positioning while in operation. The micro-hub uniquely interfaces with the forceps to offer improved control of the needle when inside the eye and during the crucial moment of the haptic extraction.
By combining all the elements in one solution pack, surgeons can be assured that the instruments are at the ready so they can perform the procedure efficiently and effectively.
