Alcon has introduced Systane Complete, a new formula designed to provide soothing relief for every major type of dry eye. The new product joins the Systane family of dry eye drops as a first-line treatment option for people who suffer from evaporative dry eye, aqueous tear deficient dry eye, or mixed dry eye.

“As an optometrist, I understand first-hand the need to provide patients with dry eye solutions that not only work, but provide instant relief that lasts for hours,” JeanMarie Davis, OD, Director of Professional Relations and Practitioner Partnerships, US Vision Care, Alcon, said in a company news release. “That’s why Alcon is particularly excited about the addition of Systane Complete to the portfolio because it takes key ingredients from our existing drops and elevates the technology to deliver real relief for patients for all major types of dry eye. This is yet another advancement supporting our mission to enhance quality of life through eye care.”

Systane Complete uses intelligent moisture and lipid delivery to enhance delivery of the active ingredient across the surface of the eye and stabilize the tear film. Its advanced nano-droplet technology allows for fast-acting hydration, tear evaporation protection, and long-lasting relief for a patient’s eyes. Each drop includes the active demulcent, propylene glycol, which spreads across the surface of the eye, according to Alcon.

“Dry eye is a chronic issue for a large number of my patients, often making it a challenge to treat them and achieve optimal results,” said Paul Karpecki, OD, Director of Cornea Services at Kentucky Eye Institute and Gaddie Eye Centers in Louisville, Kentucky, said in the news release. “Systane Complete represents a much-needed, over-the-counter option because the technology is designed to deliver the active ingredient in a unique way that ensures effective coverage of the eye, so I can deliver the best outcomes for my patients.”

Systane Complete joins the full line of Systane lubricant eye drops, including Systane Ultra and Systane Balance.  Systane Complete is currently available in select retail locations and e-commerce sites, and by May 2018, patients can try Systane Complete in their optometrist’s or ophthalmologist’s office. It will be widely available for patients to purchase over-the-counter nationwide by June 2018.
