Alimera Sciences has announced the promotion of Richard S. Eiswirth, Jr. to the position of president and chief financial officer, effective January 1, 2016. Mr. Eiswirth, 46, has served as chief financial officer of the company since October 2005 and as chief operating officer since August 2010, according to a company news release. C. Daniel Myers, who is a founder of Alimera and currently serves as president and chief executive officer, will remain the chief executive officer of the company.
Dave Holland, senior vice president, sales and marketing, and Philip Ashman, managing director, Europe, will report directly to Mr. Eiswirth giving him oversight of the daily commercial sales and marketing operations. Phil Jones, executive director, finance, and controller in the US; Kristi McCracken, director, financial reporting; and Andrew Alexander, director, IT, will also report to him.
Mr. Eiswirth; Ken Green, chief scientific officer; Jeff Burris, vice president, general counsel; and Laura Cegala, director, human resources, will report directly to Mr. Myers.
Mr. Eiswirth joined Alimera Sciences in 2005 as CFO and assumed the position of COO in 2010. He is responsible for strategic finance, accounting, distribution, logistics, human resources, and information technology. Since joining Alimera, he led financing activities, raising more than $300 million in private and public equity, and debt financing.
Mr. Eiswirth has been active in Atlanta’s business circle for more than 20 years, with experience that includes financial and accounting management, mergers and acquisitions, and initial public offerings, as well as entrepreneurial and start up operational activities. He was the founder of two consulting practices, Brand Ignition Group and Black River Holdings, Inc. He was also the chief financial officer and senior executive vice president of Netzee, Inc., a provider of internet banking solutions to community banks that went public in 1999.
Mr. Eiswirth started his career in Arthur Andersen’s audit and business advisory practice where he was a senior manager and certified public accountant. He previously served as the chairman of the board of directors and audit committee for Jones Soda Co., a Seattle-based publicly traded company, director and audit committee chairman of Color Imaging, Inc., an Atlanta-based publicly traded company, and vice chairman of the North Metro Miracle League, an Atlanta-based charitable organization. He has an accounting degree from Wake Forest University.
