The Biosyntrx Humanitarian Committee has chosen Geoff Tabin, MD, co-founder of the Himalayan Cataract Project, to receive the 2016, Biosyntrx Thornton Humanitarian Award.

"Dr. Tabin’s mission and core values mirror our commitment to make a sustainable, positive impact in global quality of life by encouraging lifestyle choices that lower the risk, and financial burdens associated with mostly preventable chronic degenerative diseases," according to a company news release. "Dr. Tabin’s great passion for mountaineering resulted in his being the fourth person in the world to conquer the tallest peak on each of the seven continents. His gargantuan passion for summiting the mountain of preventable cataract blindness in the developing world is admittedly audacious, but he has proven it’s doable and sustainable."

This annual cash award is divided between a deserving individual, the nonprofit organization he or she works with, and the Hawaiian Eye Foundation.

The Biosyntrx Thornton Humanitarian Award and the Hawaiian Eye Foundation Philip M Corboy Memorial Leadership Award presentations will take place on Monday, January 18, at the annual Hawaiian Eye Foundation event and at the Hawaiian Eye Symposium on Wednesday, January 20, at 11 am.
