Modernizing Medicine announced that its ophthalmology EHR system (EMA), developed by ophthalmologists, now includes several product enhancements and an interface with FlexSys to enable an optical inventory solution, according to a company news release.
The latest release of the mobile, cloud-based EHR system includes several client-requested enhancements. Advanced tasking management is part of a strategy to help clients better manage patient care communication among the clinical and administrative staff and physicians in their offices. With this feature users can assign “to dos,” easily take action on assigned tasks, prioritize, link tasks to visits and more. Another new addition is an auditable system to manage workflow communications and patient follow-ups, including scheduling with another doctor or additional tests. Finally, users now can reorder or remove impressions, plans, and tests that don’t pertain to them or based on preference and subspecialty.
The company is celebrating that more than 20,000 ophthalmology users of EMA have completed morew than 10 million eye care patient encounters in the EHR system. This robust database can support ophthalmologists in the transition to value-based healthcare and the new Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS), which will reimburse providers based on how they perform as compared to their peers.
In addition, Modernizing Medicine has announced the interface with FlexSys, which enables the passing of both demographic and optical refraction data. Practices can use the FlexOptical system as an ecommerce platform for the optical dispensary, seamlessly integrating optical sales, insurance processing of optical goods and many reporting tools all in one software.
"For years, FlexSys has provided solutions to interface with practice management and EHR systems," Jim Whitfield, Business Development Coordinator, said in the news release. "We are proud and excited to be a part of Modernizing Medicine technologies that improve the optical dispensing area of the practice. It is our goal to provide new ideas and to remain at the forefront of development within the ophthalmic community."
“The added functionality of FlexOptical combined with the ophthalmology-specific technology in EMA is a winning combination for eye care practices,” David A. Goldman, MD, Ophthalmology Team Lead, Anterior Segment, at Modernizing Medicine, said in the news release. “We continue to innovate and develop systems that fit into ophthalmologists workflows and practice needs.”
