Pioneering ophthalmologist and medical director of Centre For Sight in England, Sheraz Daya, MD, FACP, FACS, FRCS(Ed), FRCOphth, was awarded the Fyodorov Medal, on March 2, 2018 at the 32nd International Congress of the Hellenic Society of Intraocular Implant and Refractive Surgery (HSIOIRS) in Athens, Greece.
President Elect of HSIOIRS Miltos Balidis presented the Dr. Daya’s award on behalf of Greek ophthalmologists.
Dr. Daya has pioneered a number of techniques and has been involved in the area of limbal stem cell transplantation and tissue engineering with outcomes being reported in the international press and peer-reviewed literature. Most noticeably, he has been revealed in a TV documentary “The Science of Seeing Again” as the surgeon who restored the sight of Katie Piper, the celebrity whose vision was damaged in an acid attack. As a result of his expertise, Dr. Daya is a member of many professional committees and societies.
