In recognition of a long-time supporter of Lighthouse Guild, the organization has announced the naming of The Dorothy Strelsin Behavioral Health Clinic. Lighthouse Guild is very grateful for the steadfast support of Dorothy Strelsin, who in her lifetime made numerous initiatives possible, including the Dorothy Strelsin Author Series, which introduced myriad New Yorkers of all ages to the joys of reading, according to a news release.
More recently, The Dorothy Strelsin Foundation has helped Lighthouse Guild provide exceptional services that inspire people who are visually impaired to attain their goals.
“The generous support of foundations helps ensure people who are blind or visually impaired have the services they need to lead the lives they aspire to,” said Calvin W. Roberts, MD, President and CEO, Lighthouse Guild, “We are grateful to The Dorothy Strelsin Foundation.”
The Dorothy Strelsin Behavioral Health Clinic is the only clinic in the United States dedicated to helping individuals and families cope with the effects of vision loss on emotional health. Services are also available to families and caretakers as they manage issues related to living with and caring for individuals with vision impairment or at risk of vision loss.
Psychiatrists, psychologists, and licensed clinical social workers (LCSWs) offer crisis support and treatment to help clients reduce their emotional distress, overcome challenges and advance mental health. The center provides individual, couples, family and group psychotherapy. Services are provided through face-to-face and telehealth visits.
