Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the in-person ESCRS and Euretina meetings, scheduled to take place in Amsterdam in October, have been cancelled. Instead, the 38th Congress of the ESCRS and the 20th Euretina Congress will be held in a virtual format.
In a joint letter to their memberships, ESCRS President Prof. Dr. Rudy MMA Nuijts and Euretina President Prof. Frank G. Holz stated that the decision to go virtual was made due to the safety and wellbeing of its members, delegates, industry partners, suppliers, and staff.
“We realize that this decision will have a significant impact on your marketing plans and congress strategy for 2020. We want to engage closely with you on the planning and execution of the virtual Congresses,” the statement read. “We are confident that the virtual congresses and exhibitions will be of high quality and attract record delegate attendance, as has been the case at ESCRS and Euretina live congresses in the past. We will have a number of booth options available, as well as sponsorship and advertising opportunities, satellite meetings and signage. We will be in contact shortly with further information on these booth and sponsorship opportunities.”
The leaders added that full refunds of fees paid will be available to all companies who are currently signed up for Amsterdam but who decide not to participate in the virtual format.
