Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) has cancelled its in-person annual meeting scheduled to take place in November in Las Vegas.
“In light of epidemiological projections, government regulations and public health mandates to prevent the spread of disease—including social distancing, limited crowd sizes and face coverings—the Academy has been forced to cancel its in-person annual meeting this year,” according to statement on the AAO website.
AAO added that is will present a virtual-only event.
For those who have registered for the annual in-person meeting, AAO said it will send information by August 12 about options, which will include:
- Receiving a refund
- Applying payments made to the AAO 2020 virtual meeting
- Transferring your registration to AAO 2021 in New Orleans
“If your hotel reservation was made through the official housing service, Expovision, your reservation will be automatically cancelled. If you made your reservation on your own, you will need to cancel directly with the hotel,” according to AAO.
The Academy said additional information about the program and the exhibition will be available soon within the coming weeks, and released a Frequently Asked Questions link.
