Johnson & Johnson Vision Care released the following letter to its customers regarding the company's support of Senate Bill 2777, the Contact Lens Consumer Health Protection Act of 2016:

Dear Colleague,

On July 6th, Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, Inc., traveled to Washington, D.C., to join our partners in the Coalition for Patient Vision Care Safety at a meeting with U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Chairwoman Edith Ramirez. As part of our commitment to overall vision health and safety, we met with Chairwoman Ramirez to discuss the ongoing importance of preserving consumer safeguards and look forward to following up to ensure the FTC makes decisions informed by the insights of resellers, manufacturers, consumers, ophthalmologists, and optometrists’ experiences in today’s marketplace. In the coming weeks, we look forward to following up with Chairwoman Ramirez with additional information to support our perspective of the current marketplace.

In addition to our ongoing efforts with the FTC, we are also continuing our work on behalf of vision health and safety on Capitol Hill—most recently through our support of Senate Bill 2777, the Contact Lens Consumer Health Protection Act of 2016. This legislation, introduced by Senators Bill Cassidy and John Boozman, would take important steps to improve the existing process by which sellers and prescribers communicate to confirm the accuracy of patients’ prescriptions and would help to ensure patients received their exact lenses prescribed by their eye care professional, no matter where they choose to purchase.

We invite you to add your voice and share your support of S. 2777 by sending a letter to your representatives. It takes less than a minute and will help strengthen our ability to ensure the health and safety of vision care patients far beyond the exam room.

We will look forward to sharing more on our advocacy efforts in the coming months and in the meantime, please visit our website to explore the range of resources available on key state and federal priorities and to learn more about how we are working to build a strong future for vision care—and our patients.
